August Quilting Goals Review and Two Lock Visits

Image
How can it already be the end of August!  It must be.  We celebrated my sister's birthday recently and I'm seeing back to school posts from my US cousins.   The binding did get added to my Longtime Gone quilt so its now ready to go on the bed as soon as we have some cooler weather.   I'm so pleased with how this turned out.  The binding is also a variety of blues from the quilt.  I tried to use mostly the mediums and darks but had to add the odd lighter one to get enough length. I also got all the flower petals and leaves traced for my Moondance Quilt.  There are 43 flowers to be appliqued on the quilt.  The centre of each flower has a little star shape with a small circle in the centre.  So I spent a few zoom calls appliquing all the centres into the traced star shapes. During Monday's Sewing session, I got the first of the 43 flower units appliqued to a background square.  The first leaves are pinned in place for the se...

Ontario Regiment Museum Visit

Image
On Father's Day we went to visit the Ontario Regiment Museum in Oshawa, Ontario. It is a very interesting museum and well worth a visit. The regiment dates back to the early 1800's. Ontario refers to Ontario County which was part of Upper Canada prior to confederation. This sign explains the Regiment's history. The museum has the largest collection of operational historical military vehicles in Canada. We arrived at the museum just as a group of vehicles were returning from a parade in Oshawa. Rather than visiting the inside displays, we were taken through to the back so we could see the vehicles being put away. We explored the collection outside. Dad is a Bob so a photo with the tank Bobby seemed appropriate. Dad is watching more vehicles come into the compound. Karen is checking out the driver's seat in this vehicle. None of them are spacious and none looked comfortable. Inside, there are displays that trace the history of th...

Corn Maze & Pampered Sit & Sew

Image
Thursday evening I finished adding borders to another of the $10 quilts -- Spring from 2004.  Now Nana`s Farm needs borders and then everything is up to quilting except the few that are actually quilted.  Nothing like a reunion at the end of November to get me moving on the todo's. I finally brought the applique pins downstairs so I should get going on Love Entwined again.  The crown is cut out I just need to pin it in place so I can start stitching. Yesterday Karen & I went over to Waterloo to see the Waterloo Quilt Guild Show.  It was an excellent show.  A very talented group of quilters.  The big disappointment is no sharing photos without permission of the member and the guild so those photos will stay on my computer. Afterwards we drove to Crosshill to the Waterloo Cornmaze where we spent a couple of hours trying to find our way through the maze. We made a start and didn`t seem to be getting anywhere so Karen took my camera and went bac...

Quilts at Sharon Temple

Image
From Alliston, we headed over to East Gwillumbury and Sharon Temple . I loved the setting.  It was hard to focus on the quilts sometimes.  I kept wanting to move them out of the way.  Lots of lovely quilts though and I enjoyed the show. Some more fun quilts. The ballarina quilt was made for the lady's grand-daughter who is only two. Grandma is hopeful that the quilt will inspire some dreams. I've seen one other version of the Hart's Content quilt and it was just as fun. The buildings all have fabric specific to what the shop sells. Really fun to examine. Cecile Lavas - Alanna's Quilt Cecile Lavas - Alanna's Quilt Detail Amy Hart - Hart's Content - My Kinda Place I like this take on a one block wonder. The design was a necessity brought on by lack of fabric but what a wonderful solution to the problem. Alliston Quilt Show - Quilting Among Friends

Image
On our day out last month Karen and I met at a car pool lot and then headed up to the first show in Alliston.  We hadn't really planned on this show because I'd forgotten about it then assumed it was to far away.  A quick check on google maps said it wasn't as far as I thought.  One of the first quilts we saw was a Rosewood Quilt.  I have one of these from the $10 quilt classes out at Hobby Horse.  Mine is waiting to be quilted.  This was done at another quilt shop. Cathy Conrad-Doll My Rosewood Quilt  Next were a few fun quilts.  Ditzy Chicks and Funky Cats.  I like the attitude in the chicks and the mice and cheese hiding in the twisted tails of the cats. Arlene Gibson - The Ditsy Chicks Senora Baldry - Funky Cats Senora Baldry Funky Cats Detail They had a wonderful collection of One Block Wonder quilts.  I bought some fabric and a book last year to make a One Block Wonder but still haven't begun.  I love to...
