Goals for 2024

Image
Last year both sped by in the blink of an eye and crawled by slower than molasses in January.  It was a year of change and grief so my priorities changed and I'm thankful for the time I had and for the space I took.  Much of Q4 ended up being about rest.  I'm slowly starting to pick things back up again but am still taking the time and space I need to rest and grieve.  But I know Dad liked to see what we were doing so its time to start progressing again. Looking back at last year Quilting:   1. Butterfly quilt - This hasn't changed since my post in October.  I still haven't looked at it to figure out the missing pieces and how much is done. 2. Labyrinth - This top was completed in Q1.  I did buy backing fabric for it at the beginning of November with the intention to wash it, piece it and make an appointment to go quilt the top but sadly it still sits on the dryer waiting to be washed.   3. Rainbow Quilt - This is now a completed to...

Q3 Check In

Image
Yvonne at   QuiltingJetGirl  has a check in for our progress on Q3 and plans for the rest of the year.   Q3 has been a mixture of coping with personal changes and trying to pick things back up again.  Q4 has the potential for more normalcy but also more changes. I think I should have more quilting time in the last quarter. Quilting This year I want to finish quilt tops for  1. Butterfly quilt - no change this quarter.  In November I hope to be able to review what is done and figure out whether I've missed cutting some pieces, cut them incorrectly or what is going on. 2. Labyrinth - Done Q1 3. Rainbow Quilt - I did get some piecing done on this.  The top third is into 3 large blocks.  The remainder is sewn into 4 patches or into 4 X 8 patches.  I think that will get assembled in October. 4. Love Entwined applique (centre block only) - no progress.  I want to prep some pieces so I can work on it in the eveni...

Q2 Check in

Image
Yvonne at QuiltingJetGirl  has a check in for our progress on Q2 and plans for the rest of the year.   Q2 did not go quite as planned.  In the process of allowing myself time and space to deal with a major life event, some things got set aside.  Some of them will get picked up again but probably not until later in the fall. Quilting This year I want to finish quilt tops for  1. Butterfly quilt - I started to stitch together the blocks I had cut out earlier in the year.  Its been slow progress as there seems to have been some cutting errors - or maybe my piecing on a different machine isn't as accurate as it could be.  Need to check that as well. 2. Labyrinth - Done Q1 3. Rainbow Quilt - Still only some blocks stitched together.  This will probably end up waiting until the fall. 4. Love Entwined applique (centre block only) - no progress. Cherrywood challenge quilt - I didn't get this completed and submitted.  I have most compon...

January 2022 One Monthly Goal Review

Image
Its has been a very successful month for quilting.  The Moondance top is finished :) and I'll get the binding made this weekend.  I'm starting to think about how to quilt it and which top to work on next.  I have a few smaller items on this years UFO list so will probably choose one of those. I made such good progress on this in January because I went with four friends to a quilt retreat for a week.  Our lockdown rules limit indoor gatherings to five.  It was such a wonderful time to get a way and be with friends and do something I love.  I also got a lesson on how to make a journal with reclaimed paper which was fun. Late last year I ordered 7 fat quarters from Spoonflower to make a panel One Block Wonder.  I used a digital art piece I created last year called Tempest in a Teacup.   I had used the design helper to choose which piece might work well as a One Block Wonder.   I was amazed at how fast the order came.  From the gui...

Growing as an artist

Image
Over the last 18 months I've been learning to create digital art using photoshop.  A lot of what I've been learning is based on Sebastian Michael's courses on My Photo Artistic Life   Its been a lot of fun.  This month, one of the lessons asked us to think about our artistic journey over the last year and how we have grown and how we have approached living a life that embrace being an artist and celebrating our creativity.  Then to create a piece of digital art about that journey.   This piece was my answer to that exercise: If you look carefully, there are three models.  The one furthest back is hiding behind the wall and peeking out.  Not sure if she wants to share her creations or not.  The one in the middle is out in the open but still a bit afraid and still hiding a bit.  The one in front is embracing her creativity and sending out creative beams, ready to share her work.   I definitely started out last year being th...
