Finished the applique borders (finally)

Image
This was a $10 quilt at Hobby Horse in 2002 or 2003 (I've put the pattern away in a safe place) The original design had a piano key border that I didn't care for but Australian P&Q had a pattern called Sweet Memories by Barb Cleaver with an applique border that I really liked so I used it for this quilt Now to find the pattern so I can get the name of the designer and pattern for the centre of the quilt Update: The quilt is A Pieceful Year designed by Sue Ramage

2009 $10 Quilt Blocks

Image
I finished the hearts yesterday and worked on the caterwall block today. It needs some flowers and the cat needs some paws but I'm thinking about what I want to do for them.

PSE7 Lesson 6

I went to an orchid show today. For the lesson I took one of the orchid pictures, selected the flower and saved it. Then started playing with colours and backgrounds For this one I just played with selecting shapes on the black background then coloured them in. Double Dutch Anyone?

2009 $10 Quilt January Homework

Image
I took the stack of fabrics I pulled the other day and got the two pieced blocks done (there is actually a little applique to add to one of them if I want). The first is a Farmers Daughter block and the other is Amazing Geese. I wanted the Farmers daughter block to look more like a flower than the pattern shows Now to cut out the pieces for the applique blocks and get them setup for stitching. Maybe its just as well there is no Life Drawing class next week because of the provincial stat holiday. It will give me an extra evening to work on this.

Good Bye Tree

Image
There was a large tree with a red x at the base of the rock when I left for work this morning. This evening, the city has been past and removed the tree. It was overhanging the road, sidewalks and driveways. I thought it would be trimmed but when the city looked at it last year they decided it was dangerous and needed to go. We were told it could be about a year before it was removed. Its only been 6 or 8 months so I was surprised when I got home. Now I’m curious why the stump is painted red.

$10 Quilt 2009 - Patchwork Pumpkin "Nanna's Farm"

Image
This year's $10 quilt is "Nanna's Farm" from Patchwork Pumpkin Tonight I spent some time pulling fabrics for this month's blocks. There are 4 blocks to make for the 28th -- 2 pieced and 2 applique. Here's the fabric collection for now.

PSE 7 Lesson 5

Image
The photo of the tiger is from the Toronto Zoo last fall. The other is a picture of Dad one afternoon over the Christmas holidays. I extracted the tiger using the magic extractor and now have a tiger on the couch having a nap... Last fall my young cousin sent a bear named Birdie to visit Mom and Dad as part of a school project. Over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend Mom & I took Birdie out to see the sights. Here he is at the lake front and then the photo cropped and turned into a snapshot.

Made a Decision

Image
So this morning I played a little with the camera settings. It was cold since it was so sunny. Last night I finally made a decision of sorts and come home with this. I still might take Karen's suggestion and when it stops blooming go get another colour. The selection criteria leaned heavily on which one has lots of buds and not too many flowers as I want to enjoy the flowers which helped me to avoid the big decision of which colour did I like best....
