Q3 Check In

Image
Yvonne at   QuiltingJetGirl  has a check in for our progress on Q3 and plans for the rest of the year.   Q3 has been a mixture of coping with personal changes and trying to pick things back up again.  Q4 has the potential for more normalcy but also more changes. I think I should have more quilting time in the last quarter. Quilting This year I want to finish quilt tops for  1. Butterfly quilt - no change this quarter.  In November I hope to be able to review what is done and figure out whether I've missed cutting some pieces, cut them incorrectly or what is going on. 2. Labyrinth - Done Q1 3. Rainbow Quilt - I did get some piecing done on this.  The top third is into 3 large blocks.  The remainder is sewn into 4 patches or into 4 X 8 patches.  I think that will get assembled in October. 4. Love Entwined applique (centre block only) - no progress.  I want to prep some pieces so I can work on it in the eveni...

Q2 Check in

Image
Yvonne at QuiltingJetGirl  has a check in for our progress on Q2 and plans for the rest of the year.   Q2 did not go quite as planned.  In the process of allowing myself time and space to deal with a major life event, some things got set aside.  Some of them will get picked up again but probably not until later in the fall. Quilting This year I want to finish quilt tops for  1. Butterfly quilt - I started to stitch together the blocks I had cut out earlier in the year.  Its been slow progress as there seems to have been some cutting errors - or maybe my piecing on a different machine isn't as accurate as it could be.  Need to check that as well. 2. Labyrinth - Done Q1 3. Rainbow Quilt - Still only some blocks stitched together.  This will probably end up waiting until the fall. 4. Love Entwined applique (centre block only) - no progress. Cherrywood challenge quilt - I didn't get this completed and submitted.  I have most compon...

2020 Goal Review and 2021 Goals

Image
Once again Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl is a hosting a Planning Party for the coming year.  So its time to look at what happened this year and what I'd like to accomplish next year.  Use the link above to join the party or see what others are planning. Review: Quilting: 1.  Clean and organize quilt room (and office since they are in the same area).         The office got moved upstairs into the den this fall and I'm enjoying that setup.  Bits of organizing have happened but there is still a lot that needs to be stored, given away and organized.  I also realized that with the office area moving, I don't need to keep the current layout.  I borrowed a book from the library called  Love Your Creative Spaces by Lilo Bowman that Mel recommended in a comment in July.  Its a really good book, I need to go back through it again for ideas as I progress and consider the layout of the room.  I also found the notes from a Quil...

The year so far (goals review)

Yvonne  has a mid year review link up this month.  My wrist healed well and I've been back quilting since the end of February / early March although it was limited at first.   Quilting: 1.  Clean and organize quilt room (and office since they are in the same area). Despite staying at home for the last several months, its still not as organized as I would like.  Parts are tidied and parts are still a mess.  Some things need to be taken up to the recycling station now that its open and that will help the cleanup.  I did move part of the office to another area of the house which will free up a bit of room and may result in a bigger reorganization. 2.  I'm going to continue with the Motivation Monday ideas.  I'm still working on the list I created for 2017.  The goal at the time was to move things forward.  I think that will still be the goal for some things as they are quite large.  The list still includes Canada BOM from Gui...

Goals 2020: Lightroom Cleanup Notes

Image
One of my goals for a long time has been to cleanup my photos in Lightroom.  I mentioned several years ago  what I am doing to keep track of progress.  The method hasn't really changed that much. I don't use the colour labels at all so I went to Metadata, Color Label Sets and picked custom.  Then picked one with a number short cut to rename.  I renamed the green label as I couldn't bear to look at a screen with too much red or yellow.  I set the name to be the actions I want to take and a reminder of how to remove the label when I'm finished.  Labels are a toggle.  Press 8 adds the label and pressing it a second time removes it. Then I went to All Photographs under Catalog and clicked on a photo and pressed Ctrl-A to select every photo in my catalog.  Once they were all selected, I pressed the number 8 which assigned my review photo label to all my photos. If I need a reminder of what my label means, clicking on the little green ...

2019 Goals: Learn Photoshop 1

Image
As I mentioned previously   a goal the last several years has to been to learn Photoshop .  I realized this year that part of my problem was I hadn't really defined what that meant so came up with a high level idea.   Through my library, I get access to Lynda.com  In January, I watched Julianne Kost's classes on Lynda.com called Photoshop CC 2019 Essential Training: Photography and The Basics .  While watching these I realized that I needed to step back a level.   I do basic editing in Lightroom, having learned some formulas but I don't understand why they work or what to do when they don't work.  I'd like to understand all the panels in the develop modules of Lightroom (or camera raw) and know how and when to use the tools.  Then when that still hasn't gotten the photo where I want it, how to continue in Photoshop .   So I stepped back and started watching her course on Camera Raw .  While its not Lightroom itself, th...
